TSYS: Your Partner in Japan
TSYS® entered the Japanese market in 2000 by acquiring a majority share in GP Network Corporation (GP Net), a joint venture formed by seven leading Japanese credit card companies and Visa International. Shortly following the new partnership, a wholly owned TSYS subsidiary, TSYS Japan, was established to offer processing alternatives to the payment card industry.
Since its establishment in 1995, GP Net has been in services to more than 70 acquirers and to more than 120,000 merchants in Japan. As the gateway linking card companies and merchants, GP Net offers a secure and reliable network to deliver transaction data generated by cards at Point-of-Sale. Such transaction data could be transmitted from either stand-alone POS terminal, or through direct interface with merchant host.
In 2006, TSYS Japan began providing processing services truly as a “third-party” processor in the Japanese market. It currently offers a variety of products and services, including an innovative debit card and credit card, both of them offer cardholders a choice of multi-currency repayment options. TSYS Japan also serves for several prepaid card clients since it began providing services for its first client in 2006. By adding several functionalities that our retail clients requested, even faster growth in this sector is expected to continue into the coming years.
Last year, TSYS assumed operations for a data center in Nago, Okinawa called TSYS Okinawa Data Center (TODC) with premium facilities. The new clients and technologies that the data center brings to TSYS contributed to strengthen TSYS presence in the Japanese market. TODC is a valuable hub for TSYS, taking geographical advantage of Okinawa, which is located in the middle of East and Southeast Asia.
